The World Beer Cup winners have been announced with the awards being presented Saturday night.
There were 2,864 entries judged in 91 categories. The category receiving the most entries was American-style India Pale Ale with 77 and second was German-style Pilsener with 72.
Here’s how the beers are judged.
The United States won the most medals as a country with 158. Germany came in second with 25. Belgium came in third with 11. The U.S. submitted the most entries as a country, 1,851, compared to the rest of the world’s 1,080. That means 63 percent of the entries came from the U.S. A total of 645 breweries participated.
For the first time, a woman brewer won the Champion Brewery award in the Small Brewpub category: Tonya Cornett from Bend Brewing Co., Bend, Ore.
Here’s a list of the Champion Brewery awards and the individual medal winners.
That’s one heck of a list of delicious brews. Special props to North Carolina’s own Foothills Brewery bringing in a silver and a gold. Can’t say I blame those judges though after recently trying the People’s Porter and the Total Eclipse Stout. Way to put NC on the beer map. Although I gotta say, I can see some of these other new microbreweries sprouting up in the area making some noise pretty soon too. That’s it from me wam. See you at the World Beer Festival in Durham this weekend.
